Hobbs Creek Restoration Activities
Hobbs Creek is an example of an ecosystem that had undergone extreme degradation. Erosion of the stream channel and banks, high organic content leading to low pH in the water, dead or dying surrounding trees, and low flood plain storage areas are just some of the issues currently affecting the area. Since 2005, Facilities Management has spent much time and effort in the removal of invasive species from the surrounding area. Restoration efforts have included the placement of abutments in the creek channel and riparian area in order to help the system recover from instability and erosion problems. Other recommendations include creating and integrated watershed planning program, invasive species controls, and the placement of weirs in the channels to slowdown the creek flow.
