Mystic Vale
Restoration Activities:
Mystic Vale has been an area in need of extensive restoration for some time. The area is 4.7 hectares (11.6 acres) and was originally an area with great cultural and social background for the native peoples in the area. The forested area is now an example of what can result from improper trail construction and invasive species. Ground staff has been working in the area since 1993 to try and bring the system back to a healthy state. Measures taken have included the removal of invasive plant species (mainly English ivy) and trail enhancements. Facilities Management has also constructed dams in order to slow down water flow to reduce erosion during high precipitation periods, during which large amounts valuable silt can be carried away.
